　　「要點」本句型亦為強調判斷句。常譯作不是別的…正是….

　　「例文」Genius is nothing but labor and diligence.

　　「譯文」天才不過是勞動加勤奮而已。

　　12.much less = still less 更不，更無

　　「例文」He is too shy to ask a stranger the time, still less speak to a room full of people.

　　「譯文」他連向陌生人打聽時間都不好意思，更不用說向一屋子人講話了。

　　「分析」much less, still less 引導的詞組或從句，表示一種追加的否定，所以這兩個詞組只能用于否定句中。需要指出的是，to say nothing of , not to speak of, not to mention let alone這四個詞組的意思也是更不用說，也表示一個追補的說法，但它們與much less和still less有所不同，這些詞組可以隨前一句的意思而定。前一句是肯定，則追加的也是肯定意義，如果前一句是否定，則追加的也是否定意義，如：

　　「分析」這是一個主從復合句。he was so busy… work是主句，that 至句末為結果狀語從句，句首Alone……h(huán)ouse為形容詞短語做讓步狀語。句中anything but 意為not at all , 句中but 做介詞，意為except.

　　14.not nearly (= far from ， much less than) 相差很遠，遠遠少于

　　「例文」The food supply will not increase nearly enough to match this, which means that we are heading into a crisis in the matter of producing and marketing food.

　　「譯文」食品供應將遠遠趕不上人口的增長，這就意味著我們在糧食的生產和購銷兩方面正陷入危機。

　　「分析」這是一個主從復合句，非限制性定語從句的關系代詞which之前為主句，which引導定語從句，在定語從句中關系代詞that又引導賓語從句。

　　15.can not…too… 再…也不過分，應該

　　「例文」We cannot be too faithful to our duties.

　　「誤譯」我們不能太忠于職守。

　　「正譯」我們必須盡力忠于職守。(我們再忠于職守也不過分。)
