　　1. adapt vt. 使適應;使配合

　　(1) adapt + n. + to + n. 使……適應，使……適合

　　He could not adapt his way of life to the school. 他的生活方式無法適應學校的要求。

　　(2) adapt (oneself) to 適應……She quickly adapted to new circumstances. 她能夠很快地適應新環(huán)境。/ I suggested he should adapt himself to his new conditions. 我建議他應該調(diào)整自己，以適應新的環(huán)境。

　　2. add vt. & vi. 增加，加入，補充說

　　If the tea is too strong, add some more water. 如果茶太濃，再加些水。/ Many words have been added to this edition of the dictionary。這一版字典增加了很多詞。/ The bad weather only added to our difficulties. 惡劣的天氣只會增添我們的困難。/ "And I hope you will realize it one day." he added. 他接著說：“我希耀你總有一天會明白這一點。” / I should like to add that we are pleased with the result. 我想補充一句，我們對這個成果感到高興。

　　[考查目標] 本題考查add及其構成短語的意思。

　　[答案與解析]B adding的意思是“補充(說)”。add up to意思是“加起來等于”。

　　4. amount n. 量，常與不可數(shù)名詞連用

　　“the amount of + 不可數(shù)名詞”表示“……的量”。

　　[提醒]

　　“a large amount of + 不可數(shù)名詞”后跟單數(shù)謂語

　　“large amounts of + 不可數(shù)名詞”后跟復數(shù)謂語

　　There is a large amount of / are large amounts of coal to be sent there. 大量的煤要運往那兒。

　　[比較] number 也意為“量”，但它指可數(shù)的事物的“數(shù)目，數(shù)量”。the number of ……的數(shù)目 / numbers of / a number of 大量的 后跟復數(shù)名詞
